November 2017 Monthly Forecast
Will you or won’t you? – Jupiter versus Saturn
How’s your ‘go for it’ versus ‘stay put’ instinct? Jupiter’s energy has just gone through a major shift, and now by cosmic fluke it’s also Saturn’s turn. With both changing in big ways, our inner ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Saturn’ selves are being recalibrated. Jupiter is a planet of expansion, and Saturn is a planet of contraction; Jupiter is risk-taking, Saturn is conservative; Jupiter is visionary and go-beyond; Saturn is practical and stays within dotted lines.
Jupiter is now in Scorpio and will be until November 2018. This is an image of a superhero (Jupiter) deciding to spend more time with the love of his life (Scorpio). Think of Superman with Lois Lane. Jupiter is the adventurer, the traveller, the lionhearted champion. It’s nearly 4 years since Jupiter was last in a water sign, so this growth energy is wanting to dive into intimate, tender connections. Yet Lois might first slap Superman and say ‘Where the hell have you been the past 4 years!’
Superman – Kryptonite or something else?
Often when we take a risk on entering the depths of love, which the Scorpio energy within each of us desires, there are a few ghosts to move through. Sometimes the soul bypasses these and enjoys the exquisite waters of love straight away, but later faces the fears of the self or the beloved. For when it comes to the rite of passage of the Scorpio archetype, the agonies of the soul must eventually rise up to be deeply soothed and settle into vulnerability and healing.
It might seem to Lois that Superman’s been out ravishing other glamorous superheros, but what if he’s been chained to kryptonite and has spent the past 4 years trying to escape, wanting to get back to helping his communities and to loving Lois? Yet perhaps he doesn’t speak of the evil he faced in case he traumatises her.
Cultivating trust – To speak or not to speak?
Often the Scorpio vibe raises the challenge of whether to speak of deepest traumas survived or to keep silent. Will the horror harm others? Or will not speaking harm recovery and keep trauma trapped? Soldiers and other survivors of war or tragedy are often faced with this dilemma. Remembering that everything is relative, also in daily-life emotional situations, the energy of Scorpio within can have difficulty in knowing when to speak about painful feelings, and if so, what to say.
This can often give the impression there’s something to hide and suspicion or worry might brew. Often there’s nothing to be suspicious of, yet other times there might be. For instance what if Superman did actually have secret wives across the globe? Now that Jupiter’s in Scorpio, life encourages us to speak, or not speak, in ways that foster trust, and to face any parts of ourselves or others that are secretly or inadvertently being untrustworthy.
Your Jupiter upbringing – Boundary crossing or tight walls?
During this time, how you feel about opening up more of your Scorpio side depends on what kind of Jupiter archetype you carry. We all have Jupiter in our astrology. The zodiac sign yours is in will shed light on the ways you explore the world, people and possibilities. Our sense of Jupiter comes from childhood, as does our sense of Saturn… this is very personal to each individual’s family conditions and environment.
For some, the Jupiter-self behaves in ways that people might say are ‘too much’ and takes risks beyond accepted norms. A family with a lot of drinking, boundary-crossing, partying or risk-taking might fit that category. Yet other people’s Jupiters might be more like Saturn, rarely making a move beyond a safe wall. Possibly a person with Jupiter in Capricorn (Saturn’s zodiac sign is Capricorn) might be withheld about exploring, as if they have two Saturns in their chart and no Jupiter at all!
Saturn into Capricorn – Mastery and wisdom
So what is Saturn’s big shift? In December, Saturn will move into Capricorn where it will stay for 2.5 years. This means Saturn will be moving into its own zodiac sign, the one it rules – i.e. its favourite ‘home’ zodiac sign. Saturn was last in Capricorn approx. 30 years ago, and a planet in its own zodiac sign is in its ultimate strength, feeling comfortable, supported and in sync with its environment.
What does this mean? Capricorn, like Scorpio, can have its edgy moments at first. There might be a show of strength over who’s boss, as Saturn is a planet associated with mastery, wisdom, commitment and discipline. Yet once everyone has shown their expertise, each person’s inner Saturn settles in, like a group of regional managers gathered at a national meeting.
Saturn into Capricorn – Your most stable support
Over the 2.5 years that Saturn’s in Capricorn, we each have an opportunity to grow into our strongest selves through tangible built evidence that we are able to make our goals real. But first, what needs improving?
With Jupiter in Scorpio in positive alignment to Saturn in Capricorn (December 2017 to November 2018), motivation is high to find the most resonant supporters to back your growth. Sometimes the most resonant supporter is yourself – monks, meditators, inventors etc go through times of solace and solitude to find the deepest wisdom within, and the union with the soul, spirit, inner creative self, becomes the focus.
Scorpio & Capricorn combined – Love and marriage
Even so, Jupiter in Scorpio fires up enthusiasm for getting out and finding those on a similar passionate path, whether career-wise or creativity-wise or in shared dreams and love bonds. In fact, the drive toward commitment that both the Scorpio and Capricorn energies foster could help dreams come true when it comes to marriage or other forms of enduring long-term partnership. Any fears or blocks prompt taking time to make certain it’s safe to go ahead.
It’s worth staying patient with this process, as the pleasure of more reassurance building as each up and down is navigated is all part of the joy of a bond forming. Yet in some love situations, big crossroads are reached about moving on, and patience is needed for the process of bonds separating. Scorpio teaches us that both moving into and out of committed relationship if approached as a sensitive process, while both joyful and painful, is fulfilling for the heart and soul.
The past 12 months – Major overhaul
From end 2016 to end 2017, both Jupiter and Saturn were put through the mill with intensive alignments from other planets. It’s an incredible thing for both Jupiter and Saturn to have been through major make-over alignments all through 2017, and then by some astrological fluke, also both receiving overhauls in new zodiac signs simultaneously.
Does anything in your life feel like it’s been through a massive makeover this year? Are you feeling prepared for the next year of Jupiter and Saturn refreshed in new zodiac signs? Here’s a quick recap of the three major transformation alignments we’ve all been through this year.
All three big alignments finishing
Jupiter square Pluto… multiple end/ beginning, death/ rebirth experiences leading to reaching out for bigger support or going much more deeply to find greater reservoirs of strength within, possibly after hitting rock-bottom.
Jupiter opposite Uranus… major adjustments to rapid-change technology, as well as feeling pushed or stretched in general as if suddenly needing to parachute or skydive – either popping nerves or creating breakthroughs.
Saturn square Chiron… coming to terms with the loss of what for a long time was the norm and the departure of much that was cherished, e.g. physical shops gone in the shift to online retail, homes demolished for progress etc, and the loss of special iconic souls associated with those times, e.g. David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, George Michael, Gene Wilder, Leonard Cohen, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Louise Hay…
Venus meets Jupiter and Mars meets Pluto
Mid-month Venus joins Jupiter (exact on the 13th). We won’t see this as it happens in day-time skies, yet this is an optimistic beneficial alignment that inspires courage and motivation to do something about your most hopeful future, including love opportunities, even if it means walking away from something not working.
On the 19th Mars squares Pluto, so if doubts, resistance or conflict come out of the woodwork, check if your direction is actually truly possible. Perhaps it just needs extra determination, and if so, Mars square Pluto will help you persist. If you’re confused about whether to persist or reach completion, this alignment encourages seeking advice to help you decide.
Overall, mid-to-end month carries alignments that go from positive to challenging to positive to challenging in rapid succession, which helps with winding down the year and working out which dreams, projects or connections to complete now or postpone until next year.
Mercury pre-Retro Shadow and in Jupiter’s sign
Mercury intensifies the review vibe by entering a pre-Retro Shadow phase from mid-month (15th). Go here for the dates of the up-coming Mercury Retro. Mercury will be in Sagittarius, Jupiter’s zodiac sign, all month since the 6th. All round, this ensures our attention is on Jupiter in Scorpio’s clearing out of wonky perceptions about love, trust, endings, beginnings, intimacy, truth, betrayal, healing and any other watery heart and soul needs.
It’s a month to get mind-body-spirit clear. If there’s emotional upheaval to traverse through, keep in mind that Jupiter’s brightness brings a make-over into the joys of passionate living! And when Saturn goes into Capricorn in December, we’ll be more ready to start making the practical changes for the upcoming new 2.5 year cycle.
