Spirit Guides – Your Friends or Foes? How Can You Tell?
In recent times, there’s been a dramatic increase in people coming to see me who have negative spirit-beings posing as positive spirit-guides in their lives. How can you tell the good from the bad?
Back in the early 2000s, I attended psychic development classes once a week for a few years that involved channelling and drawing spirit-guides. It was the highlight of my week, yet in between each class my sceptical mind would jump in and I’d question and doubt everything I was experiencing and learning.
Those classes kick-started my journey of attempting to bond with my own spirit-guides. I say ‘attempting’ because it took a long while to get it right. Sometimes I’ve been too open to spirit influences and other times I’ve been too closed. Over the years I’ve asked many spirit-beings to go away and I still continually check the intentions of my core spirit-guides.
‘Love and light’ – maybe, maybe not
I’ve come to understand that there are many beings interested in us, but not all of them have our best interests at heart. How can you tell which ones to trust and which ones to demand leave you alone? Often we’re taught to ask if they come in ‘love and light’. But what exactly is meant by love? And what is meant by light?
In my experience, asking ‘Do you come in love?’ to a spirit-being pretty much always gets a ‘yes’. From genuine heart-centred spirit-beings this will be truth; from the others, it might be their own illusions about what love is or their downright trickery. So I tend to say, ‘Please share what love means to you. Bring up in my imagination some examples of what you mean by love’.
I also ask ‘Why are you here? What have you come to help me with or experience for yourself? Do you want something in return from me?’ But is it really possible to talk to spirit-beings so easily and receive answers from them? Yes it is. You don’t have to be a psychic to talk to spirit-beings. You don’t even have to have great intuition.
Easy ways to talk to them
If you pay attention to your thoughts and feelings, if you use your intuition (no matter how good or bad you think it is), if you use your imagination, if you’ve ever fantasised, daydreamed or night-dreamed, if you wonder about signs and synchronicities, you’ll be able to communicate with spirit-beings.
Talk to them in your thoughts in a natural way and see what emerges. Don’t expect them to talk back with words and sentences though. This sometimes happens, but mostly they communicate through symbols, images, songs, imagination, feelings, dreams, fantasies etc.
A word of warning – enjoy connecting with spirit-beings and see how they communicate back, but be very questioning before you immediately follow every sign or synchronicity. Many spirit-beings are not very practical and need you to be the one to check you’re not racing after castles in the air. And many are tricksters enjoying a good laugh at your expense. Those immature ones have to have something to keep them amused; after all they don’t have bodies and probably wish they did.
How to tell genuine spirit helpers from the shysters
Benevolent guides want you to grow from within your own inner power. They’ll test you in ways that help you develop more discernment, more self-volition and free will, more guts and courage, more self-worth based on achievements from your efforts, more muscle and confidence to live all you can be. They want you to live the life of your dreams that springs from your essential self; the life you desire from the core of your being, your original spirit.
They’ll mentor you in finding and embracing the inner life spark only you uniquely have, and you’ll enjoy the fulfilment of what life’s natural streaming energies distribute to you, so that you not only succeed in this lifetime but also future lifetimes the better your skills get.
Yet the manipulative beings behave how people with poor principles within the media, advertising or politics do. They flash promises and bright vibes that lead us off path. Some do this very subtly and cleverly, quietly and secretly. Others do it in immediately obvious ways that are easy to see and flick off.
Get that shyster right out of your hair
When it comes to spirit-beings, if you feel like you’re being given a ‘she’ll be right, trust me’ energy, if you feel like you need their energy to get you out of bed each day or as if you have to follow every sign or synchronicity they give you or they’ll no longer help you, it’s worth questioning them more deeply.
Imagine you’re out dating and suddenly your date reveals behaviours or attitudes that make you think twice. You politely decline their company until you feel more certain. It’s the same with spirit-beings. Not all leave that easily but even the most stubborn can be booted out, no matter how deeply they’ve got in.
Just as with dating, it helps to have a proper get-to-know-you. Any spirit being can beam into your heart chakra, third eye or any chakra for that matter and buzz it up. Just because they’re in spirit form and feel ‘light and loving’ doesn’t mean they actually are kind or caring.
The bottom line – intentions
It also helps to get clear on what you want and talk hard with spirit-guides. I’ve certainly had a few fights with my own, but so far their intentions and integrity have stood the test of time. Even so I still give them the third degree because what if a manipulative more powerful being has kicked them out? Call me paranoid but I’d rather be sure I have the good guys on my side.
If you sense you have a negative being hanging around, at the very moment you realise this (best to do it straight away), simply say strongly in your mind something like, ‘I only give my permission to beings who respect my free will, live from the heart and support me to live my true self, my original spirit self. All others go away now.’
You might need to say this often if you’ve still got your doubts, especially as there are more of the false love and light beings about these days. Sure, they value your unique inner spirit and core energy, but not for you, just for themselves.
