Brightest Planets – Venus & Mars
How’s Venus in the early night sky lately, shining large and diamond-white in the west? Now Mars over in the east appears each night as Venus sets west. From mid-to-end July, Mars doubles in brightness and redness. Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn are also visible in the night sky, bringing a bigger story into the picture.
Mars Meets Total Eclipse on 27th
On the 27th Mars will be its reddest and brightest since 2003 raising themes of right use of energy. With the yang energy so strong, is it going into the right places? Mars will still be visibly bright in the sky until about September. To add to this spectacular astrology, on the night of the 27th there’s a Total Lunar Eclipse and Mars will be shining right next to it. Here along the East Coast of Australia, the eclipse happens on the 28th just before dawn on the western horizon.
Mars Retro in Aquarius
The intensity of Mars is increased by being Retro, plus Mars is in the zodiac sign Aquarius, which means the Aquarius energy is particularly featured right now. Mars went Retro on 27 June and stays Retro until 28 August, so that’s a whole two months. And except for dipping back into Capricorn for a couple of weeks while Retro in mid-August, Mars is essentially in Aquarius from mid-May until mid-November, six months in the one zodiac sign!
What Does all this Mars Astrology Mean?
With Mars in Aquarius, there’s a great impetus toward change with all its roller-coaster ups and downs to improve life. Aquarius is the zodiac sign of continual reinvention until the true self finally succeeds with living its full potential, not only in terms of its own self and soul, but also in its effect on the world. Aquarius is the symbol of the water-bearer, the god or goddess who pours the ‘waters’ of consciousness upon humanity to constantly inspire each of us to our best efforts for ourselves, the world and each life within it.
Revisiting the Past to Forge the Future
Mars Retro has us reflecting strongly and soberly on efforts and directions so far in life, including the people we’ve journeyed with. Particularly we think about significant males or masculine-type women and we might even hear from them or reach out to connect or disconnect. It’s a time to reflect on past jobs and careers, including bosses and work roles. We might think of past battles. Are we choosing our battles wisely or is energy being lost? What do we really need to get passionate about and stand up for?

Mercury is opposite Mars – Mirrors & Reflections
Whenever anything is opposite, it’s like looking in the mirror. Mirrors are opposite our faces, offering a chance to face ourselves. Everything happening ‘out there’ (in relationships with others, with the world etc) is mirroring something back about the self and the soul. If there’s conflict with another, it’s worth considering if there’s conflict within your own needs. Opposites help us see what previously might’ve been invisible or unknown to us, so July is a great month for insights, fresh perspectives and breakthroughs, and with Mercury in the picture, some very helpful communication too. It’s worth persisting with being understood and understanding, as it’s possible to clear significant crossed-wires and miscommunications.
Five Visible Planets not just Venus & Mars
Being able to see more clearly and understand multiperspectives is one of the benefits of the extraordinary astrology of July. It’s not often that the five main planets (Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn and Mars) are all above the horizon and visible at night. It’s a powerful time for ‘council’ within yourself… what do all the different parts of you want? Each planet represents a different archetype, a different voice.
Eclipses and a Supermoon
To add more to this mega month, it’s also eclipse season, a time when exciting change is potent, but it can be a bit like snakes and ladders, so keep working on getting your focus and intentions clear. Do you believe you are in charge of your destiny? If astrology is the menu at the restaurant you are eating from, which courses do you choose and how do you adapt them or send them back to the chef if they’re not what you want?
On 13 July there was a New Moon Supermoon Partial Eclipse in Cancer. Even though at a New Moon the moon itself is not visible (only just out of the dark moon and still dark), the supermoon energy revealed matters coming out of the dark into the light and started the intensity of the extraordinary astrology from mid-July.
Excitement of Eclipse Season
Eclipse season’s halfway mark will be on 27 July with a Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius. This will be the longest eclipse of the 21st-century, with totality lasting 1 hour 42 minutes. Eclipse season won’t finish until after a third eclipse (the last for the year) on 11 August in Leo at a New Moon Supermoon (the last Supermoon for the year).
You are in charge of your own destiny, so if you don’t like the restaurant serving up your life dishes, it’s a good time to find what nourishes your heart and soul better. This extraordinary astrology brings a powerful intensified window to genuinely modify and change your game plan. What do you want to experience and achieve? The world is undergoing rapid revolution. Where do you fit in all this change and how can you bring out your most integral heartfelt life and loves?
