January 2007

The new year began with a magnificent full moon on the 3rd and 4th in the zodiac sign of Cancer. For many, this full moon brought breakthroughs in stuck thinking, especially in relationships with family, partners, children or other loved ones. For some, the floodgates of emotion may have opened up alongside the ‘aha’ insights. It was a powerful time for challenging outworn habits and creating space for freedom and flow. Cancer is about accessing the riches of human emotion, no matter how raw or sensitive. When the Cancer energy is triggered we are urged to attend to our vulnerable sides, not by locking them up behind the crab’s tough outer shell but by gently communicating how we wish our needs to be met. As 2007’s first full moon, we can expect these Cancer themes to be present throughout the year.

Mars, the planet of asserting willpower, has been in active alignment with the Nodes (the axis of ‘destiny’) since the start of the month and will finish off its intense travels by joining Pluto from the 12th to the 15th. When Mars carries energy from the Nodes to Pluto great shifts in direction are possible. Spend between now and the 15th writing a ‘me, me, me’ list! Consider all the different things that you want in a range of areas in your life – it’s time to make a stand for them. Naturally you won’t want to alienate others in making a stand, so put a bit of time into devising ways to communicate your needs fairly. Watch out for bullies at this time, and be sure not to let your own inner bully dominate. If you make a mistake, don’t give up. Be persistent in refining your methods of asking for what you want and Pluto will help you keep transforming until you feel satisfied.

The new moon on the 19th, in the zodiac sign of Capricorn, also makes an alignment to Pluto. This is a great time to clarify your goals for 2007 because the combination of Capricorn and Pluto could bring very real leaps forward. Yet first under this new moon you might need to face fears of moving forward. Feelings of guilt, shame, resentment or doubt might arise. Welcome these feelings, dark though they might be, for they will show you what has been left unfinished. Clearing out the debris of the past will help you move on. Whenever Pluto is around we might feel overwhelmed by our feelings. If this happens, don’t feel you have to go it alone – be sure to reach out to a trusted loved one to help guide you through this Pluto territory.

Finally in the last fortnight of January, the two freedom-loving planets, Jupiter and Uranus, get hot and feisty. The 23rd is the most dynamic date of their pairing, but we are likely to feel their effects throughout the last two weeks of the month. Combined, these two bring rebellion, over-indulging, gambling, crazy risk-taking and more. Explosive self-righteousness, religious fervour and rampant dogma are other possibilities for the shadowy dark expressions of these energies. Yet we might also get lies exposed and breakthroughs in ethics, justice and community vision. Another upside is the vibrant energy ready to be accessed for the accelerated growth of unique individual creativity. If we commit to accessing our own passions, gifts and joys and expressing them externally for others to share, the collective energy can be taken to new heights. Humanity might rollercoaster from highs to lows over these weeks. To bring through the best & highest vision both for yourself and others, stay focused on dreams of what you want out of this powerful breakthrough period.
