Throughout February, Saturn, Chiron and the Nodes form an alignment known as a mystic rectangle. The combination of these planets in this particular cosmic pattern compels us to break through fear and compulsions in order to evolve. Saturn insists we find the courage to express our truth as creative beings. For this we must take responsibility for how we have participated on some level in creating everything around us. If we want to enjoy fulfilling creative work for which we are fully recognised and appropriately rewarded, we must learn how to create fulfillment in the smallest of things. For example, imagine what we participate in creating each time we offer even just a small warm word to someone in our lives. Once we’ve mastered the small moments, we can move onto mastering the bigger ones (e.g. creating new and exciting job circumstances for ourselves).
The second cosmic body in the mystic rectangle is Chiron, known by astronomers and astrologers as a centaur. Chiron, the centaur, helps us bridge differences – centaurs have a human side and an animal side. Neuroscience shows that our brains have a primitive ‘animal’ side (the limbic brain – which operates unconsciously) and a conscious ‘human’ side (the neo-cortex – which helps us make rational decisions). When the limbic brain takes over we succumb to past patterns, but when the neo-cortex takes over we can become overly analytical and detached. At this time, Chiron is helping us get seemingly opposing sides to co-operate healthily. Whether it’s our limbic brain and neo-cortex, our emotional and rational sides or our masculine and feminine sides, it’s not a time for polar opposites. Yet it is a time for finding common ground and not rejecting one aspect of ourselves in favour of the other.
Finally, the Nodes are urging us to stand up for our rights and speak our needs. In order to do this we must let go of trying too hard to please others. Using a combination of assertiveness and negotiation will bring good results. The Nodes are about balance, so be careful not to be either too self-interested or too accommodating of others’ needs.
There’s work to be done with this mystic rectangle that combines Saturn, Chiron and the Nodes, but the benefits can be magnificent. It’s as if we need to create critical mass within ourselves, by working tirelessly on shifting the issues discussed above, in the knowledge that our old inner patterns will surely evolve to a more satisfying level – one of empowerment, harmony and flow. So let’s keep working on balancing opposites, standing up for our needs and being responsible creators of each of our moments. The rewards will be worth the effort demanded by February’s star alignments.
